There was a time when Twitter was a place of out-of-box incisive conversations. It has started and fostered revolutions, however in its entire revolutionary avatar Twitter remained a sensible channel to reach out to people and strategize the future, inform and connect for critical information. But I am very sad to note, that incisiveness has rapidly diminished on one of my time line (and a rather important one to me) for it deals mainly with India, and its developments and the problems India faces. Unfortunately, I am finding this blind obsession with corruption, character assassinations; insinuations rather in bad taste (no matter how large our frustrations are) are not going to lead us to the solution that we look for. There are many ways random people can organize using Twitter and start storms of immense proportions. Remember, Tahrir? Sadly, instead of cool headed thinking most of the conversation is a vague demagogue of righteous indignation. What revolution was ever achieved by spewing garbage about pigs?
If you have been tweeting constantly about corruption, allegations, corrupt politicians, statutes like Jan Lokpal and RTI, activists like Anna Hazare and Kerjiwal - Please stop for a moment, and reconsider how effective you have been in your approach. How much influence, on the ground have you been able to achieve, and how better efficiency can be achieved. Can few people gang up together to create better incisive messages? Can we take the messages to new dimensions, say offline? How is the offline activity being supported by Twitter, and how is Twitter creating foundation for offline protests or activities? And no, ranting on and on, about one activist doesn't a truth make.
I only hope to see these wonderful people succeed, but IMHO, they are making a mistake of taking too narrow an approach that will not work for them. I may be wrong in this assessment. I may be right.
To summarize, overwhelming frustrations poured on Twitter and quickly acknowledged by equally offended and like-minded persons don’t lead to any solutions. Twitter will only turn into one large crib brigade of complaining pansies, which will exponentially reduce Twitter’s value and becoming a bite-less forum and hope-less group. Let’s not let it happen. If you are really serious about the causes your fight for, please, for our sake, concentrate your energies. PLEASE, Stop and think for a moment.
