A compilation of all the rants :-P
There are many parties which have plans on feeding off the carcasses of Congress in 2014 elections. But I don't think, the Congress' decimation is going to so total as in Andhra Pradesh, or the erstwhile AP. The main contenders are the TRS, Jagan's YSR and Naidu's TDP. But the smartest move for me is that of Pavan Kalyan!
Pavan Kalyan announced the formation of the party but a party which will not contest the elections and will align itself with BJP (which is most likely to form a new government). Now, in a state where the crossover from tinsel town to politics is the second nature to most movie stars, the laudable aspect of Pavan's move is the timing. By moving ahead and forming the party on the anti-Congress mood, and utilizing the "Telugu" sentiment while also aligning itself with the powerful national forces with negligible local presence; he smartly brings to the table the newness, the power in the center, the un corrupt image, and a purpose for formation of parties.
And, I do not think this is the end of the story. If I were to bet, I would bet bottom dollar that Chiranjeevi, who is kinda defacto leader in the Congress's AP region, whose ambitions for larger role was clear with Praja Shakthi Party, will at some point of time in future will align with Pavan. It makes immense sense for two brothers to come together under one banner BUT since the new party and its alliances are untested, Chinranjeevi is well off to play the Congress card for some more time.
Well, this is a smart move and something that I will be watching in future.

Over past years I have constantly maintained BJP could and should have broken up Congress by engineering defections from the party. There were many people who saw no future in the dynastic driven politics of Congress and staring at near certain defeat scenario. For years now, BJP has disappointed me. There were hardly two or three 'new joins' over 2-3 years that I even care to remember. However, now its a different story.
Every body seems to be jumping ship to join BJP. There is somebody noteworthy joining BJP everyday. And Congress' leaders seem to be 'quitting' either by not contesting, hoping for Rajya Sabha or by retirements. Serious politicians have wither branched off or joined other parties mainly BJP. This is music to my ears as this is the scenario we had envisaged here (Strategies for Congress and for Opposition (Aug 2012))
Nevertheless, better late than never!

Back to Jayalalitha. I loved the way in which she completely ignores Alagiri even though having an alliance with Alagiri, even from 'outside' is very beneficial for her. Alagiri has the greatest influence on one the key remaining regions where DMK dominates.
Though a bit perplexing, it is clear that she is out to kill DMK in totality than do it piece meal. Splintering of DMK, already weakened to core by lack of popular leadership, mis-governance, leaders pre-occupied dealing with corruption cases and steadily leaking popular base as Jayalalitha continues to attract new cadres based on her work.
